Les Saules is located 10 kilometers from Chateauneuf-la-Forèt. There you will find a large supermarket, a bank where you can withdraw money, a doctor, a petrol station, a pharmacist, many cozy restaurants and a very large swimming lake with a beach. Right next to the grocery store in Sussac is a bar-restaurant, where you can eat cheaply in the afternoon amidst the local French. A little further you will find restaurants and all necessities You will find Eymoutiers at a distance of 15 km. This is a nice historical town, with everything a nice city tour can offer.

Activities

There is a lot to do in the area, for young and old; adventurers, culture seekers or connoisseurs of French life. Your children can have fun at the tree climbing tracks, defy adventurous obstacles, climb rock walls, do a GPS search or visit the many water activities. In Nedde is a very nice butterfly and insect museum (La Cité des Insectes), fun for children and adults. Also in Nedde are horse-riding schools, for those who want to ride in the beautiful wooded area. In Peyrat-le-Château is a donkey farm, Les Ânes de Vassivière, where you can rent donkeys for beautiful trips. In Le Vigen at about 45 km is the beautiful Parc du Reynou, where 600 animals of 130 species live in partial freedom.

Nature & culture

Les Saules is located in a varied landscape with lots of forest, meadows, and beautiful long hedges. Everywhere you see the famous Limousin cows with their calves grazing quietly in the vast meadows. From the campsite you can make beautiful walks in the forest along the banks of the Combade, the local river. In the hilly and wooded area many beautiful hiking and mountain biking trails have been set out, from which you can obtain the route description at the reception.

The area is dominated by the mountain Mont Gargan, on top of which the ruin of a beautiful chapel stands proudly. On the Mont Gargan you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings and enjoy a beautiful sunset.

At Saint-Martin le Chateau are the Cascade des Jarrauds, a beautiful series of waterfalls where young and old can walk, clamber and bathe.

45 km away is the large city of Limoges with its old butchery district, porcelain shops, the impressive gothic cathedral with a beautiful botanical garden, the Limousin Aquarium, the Adrien Dubouché National Museum (famous for its ceramics, glass and porcelain), and the famous Musée de Beaux-Arts de Limoges, with a beautiful collection of enameled reliquary boxes and crosses – the permanent collection is accessible free of charge.

Also at 45 km you will find Uzerche, a beautiful town next to the river Vézère.

In the Limousin there are six of Les plus beaux Villages de France (the most beautiful cities in France), including Eymoutiers (15 km), Treignac (22 km) and Ségur-le-Château (56 km). There are many towns and villages with a beautiful Romanesque church, such as St. Léonard de Noblat (35 km), Lestards (28 km) and Solignac (44 km).

There is a wide variety of castles and museums in the region, including the Rochechouart castle, with its famous museum of modern art, the beautifully decorated Bonneval castle in Coussac-Bonneval and the center of modern art in the St. André abbey in the beautiful town of Meymac (48 km).

In Saint Jean Ligoure (40 km) you will find the ruins of the Château de Châlucet, which you can even climb. Entrance is free.

L’Espace Paul Rebeyrolle in Eymoutiers, a museum dedicated to the French artist Paul Rebeyrolle, is very worthwhile.

The town of Oradour sur Glane (70 km), which was destroyed and not rebuilt by the Nazis, is an impressive war memorial and is visited by many people in France because it is really a memorable and impressive monument.
